2023 Knewitz Chardonnay Réserve Trocken
Knewitz’s 2023 Chardonnay Réserve is a dry white wine from Appenheim in Rheinhessen, a region whose limestone-rich soils provide a distinctive setting for this Burgundian grape. The family estate’s Réserve combines the depth of barrel maturation with the freshness and mineral definition that have made its Chardonnays especially engaging.
The 2023 shows a finely integrated smoky, flinty character alongside citrus, delicate yellow fruit and herbal complexity. On the palate, a smooth, supple texture meets juicy acidity, with fruit and mineral impressions continuing through a long finish. Maturation in French oak adds shape and breadth while leaving the wine’s lively core clearly expressed. It is a Chardonnay to enjoy slowly, allowing its aromatic layers to develop in the glass.
We suggest serving around 10–12°C in a generous white-wine glass, with a little air before the first sip. Roast poultry, grilled prawns, seared scallops or creamy mushroom dishes would make thoughtful partners. This 750 ml bottle offers a rewarding introduction to Knewitz’s more ambitious Chardonnay style and an interesting comparison with fine white Burgundy.
