Maxime Crotet Bourgogne Blanc "Matilda" 2024
Maxime Crotet’s Bourgogne Blanc “Matilda” 2024 is a Chardonnay rooted in Pernand-Vergelesses, in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune. The cuvée comes from vines around 35 years old and reflects the hands-on approach of a Beaune-based négociant who launched his own business in 2021.
The grapes are harvested by hand into small crates and pressed gently on arrival at the cellar. After a short period of cool settling, the clear juice moves into oak barrels for a slow fermentation. Weekly stirring of the fine lees during fermentation adds texture, followed by approximately ten months of barrel ageing with regular topping up to preserve freshness.
This careful approach brings together the character of Chardonnay, the influence of its Burgundy origin and the texture developed through time in barrel. It is an appealing choice for exploring a small producer through a regional white with a clearly identified vineyard source.
We suggest serving lightly chilled alongside roast chicken, pan-fried fish or a creamy mushroom dish. Allow a little time in the glass as it opens.
One 750 ml bottle. Vintage: 2024. Grape: Chardonnay. Region: Burgundy, France.
