Johannes Aufricht’s Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature 2021 and non-vintage Blanc de Blancs show how compelling top German Sekt can be. Produced from Chardonnay in Baden, near Lake Constance, these are dry, finely structured sparkling wines made with a Champagne-minded focus on texture, precision and site expression. The 2021 is especially impressive: mature yet energetic, with bergamot and citrus, subtle toast and well-integrated oak framing a saline, gently buttery palate. Its mousse is refined, while the finish remains long, mineral and poised. The non-vintage bottling offers a more immediately approachable expression, balancing bright orchard fruit, lemon zest and chalky freshness with a clean Brut Nature finish. Both wines work beautifully as aperitifs, but their depth also makes them excellent at the table—particularly with oysters, sashimi, roasted poultry or delicate cream-based dishes.
